Create custom jute tote bags for fall!
Embellish a plain store-bought tote with autumn accents. Make one for yourself and another as a gift!
Supplies:
• jute tote bag
• 2-3 leaves
• acrylic paints
• paintbrush
• large rubber stamp with inspirational message
• stamp pad
Directions:
These jute handbags are so popular right now you can find an inexpensive one at most craft and discount department stores. Select one in natural tones or a light color, so your design shows up well.
Gather several small leaves – still green so they are easy to paint on without crumbling. We used 2 maple leaves. Position them on your tote and plan your design. Then paint the back of one leaf in a medium brown. You can paint the large veins of the leaf darker, so your print has greater depth.
Position the leaf and press firmly with your fingers over the entire area, so you have a complete leaf print. We then used that same leaf for our second print in the same brown. For our third print, we used a smaller leaf and painted it a redder brown. This one overlapped our second leaf after it was dry.
Finally, take your scripture or inspirational stamp and complete your design. That's all!
Tip:
Your word stamp must be large enough so that when stamped onto a rough material like jute, your message will still be legible.
You may want to practice stamping a leaf onto a scrap piece of paper first, to judge how much paint to apply to the back.
