 Decoupage your child's name with a scripture on a custom wall plaque.
The beautiful papers now found at craft stores allow for just about any theme for this decoupage project – from florals to sports to animals. Your child can pick out a pattern they like and combine it with a solid coordinating color to match their room. Print their name and favorite scripture on the solid, then accent it with vignettes from the other sheet.
Supplies:
• theme or patterned paper
• solid color paper
• acrylic paints
• paint brushes
• cutting knife
• decoupage medium
• wooden plaque
• computer
• hanging hook
Directions:
Paint the wooden plaque with the acrylic paints in the same color as your solid paper, front and back. This will give the back a finished look, and also hide any potential gaps in your paper layers.
These are laser compatible papers, so print out the name and scripture using your computer. Tear those areas out of the sheet. Position and glue them first.
Next tear various shapes out of the remaining solid paper. Overlap and glue these over all the remaining front and sides of the plaque. Use the decoupage medium on the top, as well.
Then, using a sharp knife, trim images from the themed paper and position them around the words. Be sure to press out any air bubbles under the paper and wipe off excess glue.
Add a hook when it's all dry and you're ready to hang it in their room!
Tips:
The solid paper is not colored all the way through, so tear it with no white showing on the edges. This way the shapes provide a more subtle background without distracting from the words and images.
